Many of the DEG members will have met Stephen Bird when visiting the Roman Baths, Pump Room and the Fashion Museum. Treve (the late) & Manfred Erdmenger spoke of meeting with him each & every visit, having tea/coffee and Bath Buns in the Pump Room. Where incidentally Tim Landsmann celebrated his 13th birthday in 2015!! However the sampling of the Bath Water was not so popular!!

From the Bath Newseum website:

One of the nicest and most approachable of people – working for Bath and North East Somerset – is preparing to retire at the end of September.
He’s Stephen Bird who – as Head of Heritage Services – has helped power the local tourist economy for many years.
He’s overseen the continual commercial and historical development of the Roman Baths, Pump Room and Fashion Museum and – hopefully – will be able to witness the opening of the new World Heritage Centre in York Street before he leaves.
That’s been a ten year ‘marathon’ for him that started when he showed the Heritage Lottery Fund officer around the old city laundry site in 2011
