Braunschweig: Past, Present and Future Developments.

By on Mar 28, 2014

Tuesday afternoons talk in the Guildhall, was  presented by Frau Heck from Braunschweig to the committee and members of the Twinning Association.  Barbara gave us an interesting history of the foundation of the city, the early connections of the city to England, and the development of the early town on the banks of the River Oker. Having been bomb during WW2, the city has been completely redeveloped, but with “historic  islands” giving the city a connection with its architectural past.   The transport in the city is much to be desired, with a good tram and bus service linking outlying parts of the city to the centre.  Frau Heck mentioned the many cultural activities that take place during the year, including the wonderful opera performances, that take place in the open air theatre in the cathedral square. Modern city is constantly expanding, and Frau Heck mentioned the new developments and improvements to the city’s infrastructure taking place in the city.  A most interesting talk and presentation from a member of the DEG, the Deutsch, English Association in Braunschweig.   Many thanks to T.Basson and V. Messam for the photography. Visitors to Frau Heck’s talk.
